Verify your Drupal Site with Google Webmaster Tools

If you host your site using Drupal CMS and want to use Google Webmaster Tools to increase it's visibility in Google search results, but you do not want to mess with your templates, php or site blocks, there is a very easy way to do it. Just use a URL Alias. Here is how:

  1. Log on to your Google Webmaster Tools account
  2. At your homepage, click on the "Add a Site" button and click on continue
  3. You will be redirected to a page with displays a "NOT VERIFIED" status for your site
  4. Change the verification method combo box to HTML file; do not worry: you will not need to upload any file to your site
  5. You should see a file name that looks like this "google9d8fc2b261289736.html"
  6. Now go to the Drupal console administration of your site and navigate to "Administer > Site Building > URL Aliases" (admin/build/path)
  7. Click on "Add Alias" and:
    • on the "Existing Path" edit box type the path to a existing node, like: "node/10"
    • on the "Path Alias" edit box type the name of the file google gave you "google9d8fc2b261289736.html"
  8. Click on "Create New Alias" and your done on Drupal
  9. Go back to your Google Webmaster Tool account and click on "Verify"

That's it! Very quick solution!

Having an issue

I have added an new alias with the html file webmaster tool and directed to my home page node. I saved this and then went to verify this with google/webmasters/tools and it was unable to verify. Suggestions?

Not sure...

Can u see the page if you type your alias as URL? Just a wild guess here, because if you can't see it, Google can't either!
